Balanced-Response Communication

Offering feedback and listening with respect for the beloved

and with ownership for what I observe, how I feel and what I want

1.  I ask permission:              “May I check something out?” -OR- “May I give you feedback about something?"
2.  My observation: “I heard you say ...” (hear, see, touch, taste, smell)    “Did I hear (or see) that correctly?”
“Did I get you?”
3.  My interpretation: “To me, that means that ...”
4.  My feelings about it: “And I feel …” (sad, mad, glad, scared, confused or overwhelmed)
5.  My needs:
“… because I need …”
6.  My request for concrete actions that would enrich my life: “Will you please … ?” -OR- “What I’m going to do is ...”
